Our Story
Davis County Pride was born out of a need for change. In September 2021, after local schools banned pride flags, founder Genevra Prothero took action. She warned the school board about the harm this could cause LGBTQIA+ youth in a county already facing high suicide rates. Their dismissive response only fueled her determination. She wrote an op-ed in The Salt Lake Tribune, sparking a wave of support from parents and young people eager to make a difference.
Recognizing the urgent need for safe spaces, Genevra organized a community gathering in North Salt Lake in October 2021. The event was a resounding success, and attendees asked how they could keep the momentum going. Answering the call, Genevra put out a request for volunteers, and Davis County Pride was formed. Daniela “Dani” Crockett soon joined as social media director, helping spread the word.
Our first Pride Festival, held on April 23, 2022, exceeded all expectations, drawing an estimated 1,500–2,000 attendees, four food trucks, and over 35 vendors—including numerous nonprofits. The overwhelming community support proved that Davis County was ready for Pride.
We remain dedicated to advocacy, education, and creating safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ youth and adults. As we grow, so will our events and impact—ensuring that Davis County Pride continues to be a beacon of support, inclusion, and celebration for years to come.
